ABOUT US
The Latino and Behavioral Health Research Team (LABHRT) is housed within the University of Houston, College of Education, and the Department of Psychological, Health and Learning Sciences. The overarching mission of the LABHRT is to generate knowledge and practices that contribute to understanding and reducing tobacco-related and behavioral health disparities, particularly among Latino/Hispanic ethnic groups. Research projects undertaken in LABHRT include online surveys, a pilot intervention based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a qualitative study, and secondary data analyses from local or national datasets.
Study Active for Recruitment
​Corissa Barrow, M.A., a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology, is conducting a study aimed at understanding workplace wellness and the role of organizational support among mental health practitioners. This study is intended for practitioners (at different levels) who provide direct professional counseling or psychotherapy services on a weekly basis. Upon completing the survey, participants will receive a complimentary PDF resource on work wellness and have a chance to win one of four $25 gift cards. Here is the study screener:

Culturally Relevant Acceptance-based Telehealth Wellness Program for Latine Adults Who Smoke and Experience Psychological Distress: Findings from a Feasibility Study. This pilot program, implemented among 23 individuals, was feasible and highly acceptable among participants. Smoking abstinence was reported by 35% of participants, who also decreased their anxiety and depression levels by the end of treatment and the follow-up period.

Luane Araujo Rabello, M.S., a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology is conducting 'The Understanding Ethnic Self-Identification and Health-Related Needs among Brazilians (UBRA) living in the United States U.S.' UBRA project is a formative cross-sectional study designed to preliminary identify ethnic self-identification among Brazilians living in the U.S., as well as their most salient health-related needs in order to address social and health inequities affecting this population.
